An Indiana Amber Alert issued for a missing 6-month-old girl from Hammond was canceled Wednesday morning, according to Indiana State Police. Authorities confirmed the cancellation around 8 a.m. on May 21, 2026, nearly two hours after the statewide alert was first sent to mobile phones across Indiana at approximately 7:37 a.m. Officials did not immediately release further information explaining why the alert was canceled or whether the child was safely located.
The missing infant was identified as Devaeyah Lucas-Bell, who was last seen around 4:20 a.m. in Hammond, Indiana, located in the northwestern part of the state about 163 miles from Indianapolis. Police described the baby as 22 inches tall, weighing approximately 16 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was reportedly wearing a white shirt and brown pants when she disappeared. Authorities stated during the alert that they believed the child was in extreme danger.
The Hammond Police Department requested activation of the statewide Amber Alert as investigators searched for the infant. Police also identified 31-year-old Deandry Sabbs as a suspect connected to the case. He was described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing around 208 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities said he might have been driving a gray four-door Nissan sedan with unknown Illinois license plates. Investigators did not clarify the nature of Sabbs’ relationship to the missing child.
